COMO Shambhala Estate is a ‘retreat for change’, and with a proactive approach to wellness, it offers lifestyle and healing programs that promote a journey to self-care and personal growth. Every holistic experience is tailored to your individual needs and designed to provide inspiration for a long-lasting healthy life. The luxury Balinese resort is located a 15 minutes drive from the artists’ town of Ubud, in a tropical setting near the River Ayung. It forms the ideal backdrop for mindful group retreats, cultural discovery and outdoor adventure. Professional advice from resident experts and signature programs will encourage you to shed old habits, explore new passions and make informed life changes that will last well beyond your stay.
Our Founder Sab had the pleasure of staying at COMO Shambhala Estate, a beautiful oasis of green in the centre of Bali. Away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy town of Ubud, it was the perfect getaway to reflect and ‘get away from it all’.
This popular health retreat in Bali has 2 on-site restaurants: glow, for nutritious meals and refreshing juices, and Kudus House, where you can indulge in the flavours of Indonesian cuisine. The resident nutritionist, Ayurvedic doctor or Oriental Medicine expert can create special diets to match your personal needs so you can maximise your performance and have enough energy throughout your stay. And with a fully equipped fitness centre, endless outdoor activities, a yoga pavilion and jungle gym, you’re going to need it. Recharge yourself after in the Vitality Pool – with natural spring water from the source at the slope of the Estate’s jungle, rid toxins in the steam room or enjoy a warm muscle-wrap to relieve any remaining tension.
The Estate’s natural setting deep within the rainforest forms a peaceful and healing home for your well-being experience. The main wellness area, Ojas – meaning The Essence of Life, offers 9 treatments rooms and a yoga balé to get your ‘zen’ on. The Water Garden – Kedara – is a hidden zone above the river and ideal for a mindful meditation session, a calming massage in the open air treatment rooms or to just relax in one of the three natural spring rock pools. Ditch the Wi-Fi and in-room TV and practice yoga at the dedicated pavilion, relax in the sauna or connect with the rhythms of mother nature.
COMO Shambhala Estate is mindful of its impact on local cultures, economies and environments. Guests are invited to learn about the retreat’s sustainability initiatives in order to minimise their environmental footprint. Food comes from the organic garden or is sustainably sourced from local farmers. Pools are fed by natural spring water from the source at Kedara and water is shared with some 500 villagers daily. A reputable waste management company is hired by COMO to service the resort as well as neighbouring villages and schools, and all effort goes into being as energy efficient as possible.
Besides having your very own Personal Assistant during your stay, we adore COMO Shambhala’s truly holistic approach to wellness. Outdoor adventures and cultural excursions are therefore part of their daily activities schedule, so you can work on your well-being whilst immersing yourself in Bali’s pristine surroundings.
Bali’s lush landscape acts as a natural fitness ground for plentiful off-site activities that are led by expert guides: scenic nature trails, rice paddy walks, mountain biking excursions to local markets and visits to traditional temples. Early risers can have a pre-dawn adventure and ascend to the top of Mount Batur, a 1717 meter high volcano. Participate in the COMO Shambhala Estate Biathlon and challenge yourself during a guided 3 to 4 hour cycling and trekking tour on Bali’s off-the-beaten-paths.
The Ubud health resort also offers a lap pool and numerous on-site activities, such as Qigong, tennis, aqua circuit training in the Vitality Pool, climbing, outdoor circuit training, meditation, yoga, mat Pilates, TRX training (total body resistance). View a sample schedule of daily activities.
Whether you’re after a peaceful holiday in Bali or want to embark upon a tailored wellness retreat in jungle paradise, the spa resort’s residential vibe will feel like your home away from home. Accommodations are a mix of contemporary design and traditional detailing and consists of 30 rooms and suites, housed in palatial Residences and Villas. There are five unique themed Residences, each with four or five suites, airy living areas and a large swimming pool, designed by Cheong Yew Kuan, an architect with the utmost respect for the environment and indigenous styles of building.
The aesthetic combines Asian and European influences, high-spec fixtures, handmade furniture, Indonesian artefacts and architectural details that exude the spirit of the region. Each residence is uniquely private, and no two are alike.
Book a whole Residence if you’re travelling with family or larger groups, or hire one suite and share pools and select living areas with other guests. For the ultimate seclusion, the Private and Retreat Villas are the ideal hideaway for couples and solo travellers and some even include their own treatment room! You can also hire the entire Estate, perfect for a corporate retreat or wellness event.
Tirta-Ening (Sanskrit for ‘Clear Water’) is dominated by a 91sq metre COMO Shambhala Suite with an exquisite Japanese water garden featuring a private waterfall. The entire residence has a Zen feel. The sound of water can be heard throughout. The dining and living rooms cover some 113 square metres, and can be happily shared with guests booked into Tirta-Ening’s Suite or two Terrace Suites. The pool is stunning. There is a central floating pavilion constructed from batu kuning (yellow rock) and teak with an ironwood shingled roof, reminiscent of old Javanese homes. Other highlights include hand-carved doors, stone carvings and Chinese antiques.REQUEST A QUOTE

Bali has a warm, tropical climate with two distinctive seasons: dry (May to September) and wet season (October to April).
Even in wet season, rain showers don’t last all day and with an average daily temperature of 28-29°C, the island is a popular destination year-round.
The high season is in July and August, as well as during Easter Holidays, Christmas and New Year.
May, June and September are the best months to visit. The weather is not yet too hot and humid, and the island is less crowded.
