Located on the southern coastline of Koh Samui in Thailand, Kamalaya is a multi-award winning Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa. Surrounded by lush gardens, the resort has been providing health-minded guests and retreat facilitators with unparalleled wellness experiences since 2005. Kamalaya integrates healing practices from both East and West and ensures every retreat is customised to your personal goals. Nutritious cuisine, superb spa facilities and experienced practitioners join forces to cultivate complete well-being at this healing hideaway. Kamalaya is the ideal wellness destination if you’re looking to host a private wellness retreat in Thailand.
After a great flight with Emirates to Bangkok and onward with Bangkok Airways, I arrived at Koh Samui’s most popular wellness sanctuary a little after 10am. I very much looked forward to immerse myself in a 3-night Relax & Renew program, and make the most of the resort’s scheduled activities.
Transfers to and from the airport are included in every wellness package, and my driver was waiting when I walked out of Samui’s tiny terminal. Located on the less developed Southeastern tip of the tropical island, the journey to Kamalaya takes approx. 45 minutes.
Koh Samui’s leading wellness resort offers healthy and healing cuisine that uses fresh, tropical and, where possible, organic ingredients. The menus provide low fat, low sugar and low sodium options, ranging from vegetarian dishes to seafood, poultry and lamb. In addition to private fitness sessions and scheduled group classes, the state-of-the-art gym and 25 meter outdoor lap pool form the ideal setting for a cardio work out. Treat your muscles afterwards with a soothing massage at one of the 25 treatment rooms.
Lifestyle at Kamalaya’s nature-rich surroundings is tranquil, informal and relaxed. To optimise a restful environment, use of electronic devices is restricted and should only be used in the privacy of your suite. The yoga pavilion and sala are available for peaceful moments to yourself so you can slow down and let go of any remaining stress. To further promote serenity and to ensure you are undisturbed by the pressures of the daily life you temporarily left behind, guest rooms are not equipped with TV’s. For a deeper holistic wellness experience, join one of the mindful group retreats led by visiting practitioners or participate in one of the daily scheduled yoga classes.
When Kamalaya was built, all effort went into preserving as much of the location’s natural environment as possible. A total of 150 trees were relocated to a nearby nursery prior to construction and brought back to the resort when building works were finished. All accommodation has been designed to allow natural air flow so use of air conditioning can be reduced to a minimum. Other sustainable practices are water and energy conservation, waste management and use of eco-friendly detergents.
Kamalaya’s architectural approach has ensured there are different landscapes within the grounds – sea, earth, open skies, hilltops, greenery and streams. The various themes embrace the natural elements that surround the resort, empowering you to reconnect with nature for the ultimate healing experience.
The resort’s flexible approach to wellness means you don’t have to choose a multi-day program to make the most out of your stay. You can simply have a healthy holiday in Thailand without committing to a structured package and benefit from Kamalaya’s restorative environment, lap pool, modern fitness centre and yoga platforms.
Complimentary group classes, cultural activities and a number of wellness workshops are available on a daily basis (see sample schedule). If you’d like to venture outside of the resort, Koh Samui has plenty of options to keep you entertained such as diving, trekking, golf and fine dining. Hire a bike and visit small villages, sandy beaches, ancient temples, lush coconut groves and beautiful waterfalls.
Built on a tropical sloping hillside amidst lush vegetation and with a private beach, the 75-room health resort forms a peaceful refuge for your well-being holiday. The 25 Villas, 26 Suites and 24 Hillside Rooms are designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape and offer serene interiors and captivating views from your terrace.
TV’s are not part of the standard room features and are available on request only. Additional inclusions are iPod dock, beverages, fruits and snacks, a personal safe and WiFi, which is available at an extra charge.
